Statement of Faith

Statements of Faith are for wimps. Here in North Carolina, we put it all on the sign:

No, I didn't photochop that pic. I took it on Highway 73 between Red Springs and Lumberton. No prize for the first person to guess what Bible version these guys use.

There's a church in my town that always puts platitudes on their sign, such as "seven days without prayer makes one weak" or "Aim at heaven and get earth thrown in. Aim at earth and get neither". They change them all the time and they're not always true or scriptural. Last week I drove by, and it read ... (I still can't believe this)...

Looking for a sign from God?
This is it.

I love those cheesy signs. In a sort of roadkill-fascination way, of course.

Then we wonder why no one takes Christianity seriously...

C'mon. These signs outside of churches are much better than bumper stickers on the back of the car that just freekin' cut me off!

Actually, I just find the name of their church completely hilarious.

And yes, there's a reason I don't have Christian bumper stickers on my car. I'm a little worried about how well I drive...

Why, yes, I'm attending Mount Horeb Living Water Baptized Set Apart Sancitifed Christian Life Disciple Community.

Geez... pregnant members of that church better pre-register at the hospital, or they'd be having their babies in the waiting room while the receptionist is looking for extra paper.

Can you imagine putting a cheque into the plate, instead of cash? I doubt you could actually write all that on the "To" line of any cheques I've ever seen...

They must prefer cash contributions.

Yeah, I love the name too. That's funny. When it is "over-striven" for, you begin to wonder what is really in a name, and what it is worth. If it comes off as pretentious to us, you wonder how people who aren't saved read it.

What is sad is that sometimes a well placed and well meant road-sign can really give you a boost. At a time I was close to dropping out of school because life was getting really tough, I rode past a dentist's office that had a sign that simply read "Nothing worth having is ever easy to get." That made me think about where I was and where I wanted to go. It encouraged me tremendously. I suppose sometimes what is old is new, and "creativity" at the price of credibility isn't worth it.
